A 73-year-old Florida man was killed in a pedestrian crash outside of the Short Hills Mall late Friday night, March 27, authorities said.
At approximately 8:42 p.m., Millburn officers responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of JFK Parkway and Fineran Way, according to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Millburn Police Chief Brian Gilfedder.

A 31-year-old Paterson man was arrested after crashing on Route 4 in Paramus, fleeing across Route 17, and hiding inside a closed business late Thursday, Feb. 19, authorities said.
Larry W. Urtarte, 31, of Paterson, was operating a 2006 Pontiac G6 westbound on Route 4 in the local lanes at approximately 11:30 p.m., when he tried to enter the express lanes, Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti said. During the maneuver, the vehicle struck a metal divider and became disabled, the chief said. Urtarte fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.

Marc Owens, 56, turned himself in to Norwalk police on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the fatal crash that killed Josephine Pimpinella in the summer, authorities said. Officials charged him with misconduct with a motor vehicle, distracted driving not by cell phone, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

A motor vehicle crash on Sunrise Highway left a Shirley man dead and two others injured on Friday, Dec. 13, Suffolk County police announced.
Darrell Sumpter, 51, was driving a 2002 Cadillac westbound in the left lane of Sunrise Highway when the vehicle swerved and struck a 2021 Ford utility truck in the right lane, police said. Both vehicles left the roadway and overturned at 1:37 p.m., approximately 1.5 miles east of Horseblock Road in Shirley, according to authorities.
